Christmas, A Story — Zona Gale

A Captured Santa Claus: The book reflecting the hardships of war and the attempts of parents to maintain stability for the children. A father makes a promise to his children, and he risks his life to keep it, even to crossing enemy lines to get to them.
Christmas: A small town falls on hard times and through much persuasion, decides to skip Christmas. A lone woman finds that her small nephew, now orphaned, is coming to live with her on Christmas Eve. The town decides to do things to welcome him that are 'not really for Christmas,' but of course....he is a small boy, and so they really ARE! The spirit of love and brotherhood shines through as Christmas softens hearts and is reborn in this tiny village.
