Robert Anderson, a plantation owner in Jamaica, lives a life marked by wealth and power, built on the backs of enslaved Africans. Despite his stern exterior, Robert is conflicted by the societal norms and his conscience. His life changes with the arrival of a new group of slaves, among them a strikingly beautiful and resilient woman named Amara. Amara's journey to Jamaica is harrowing; she endures the brutal Middle Passage and is thrust into relentless toil on the plantation. Robert is drawn to her defiance and dignity. He begins to seek her out, leading to a secret and forbidden love affair. Their connection grows, but their relationship is fraught with danger and scrutiny from both slaves and overseers.
