The Career Killer, Gary Wilson, committed ten murders in Nevada and Southern Utah. He decided to get a fresh start in Raleigh, North Carolina when it got too hot in Vegas. Jake Powell and his partner, Billie Keene, received accolades for bringing the killer to justice. No one cared if the body found in the wreckage from the explosion could be positively identified. Nobody except Jake himself, who didn't like the circumstances behind the capture. Not having a positive identification of the body or a good reason for Gary's supposed suicide left Jake uneasy. His cop sense told him something was not right but no one else would believe him. Gary, AKA Tom, was settling in Raleigh and wasn't missing the excitement of the kill at least not at first. Soon similar murders begin to occur in Raleigh. Detective William Hitchens is assigned the unusual murders and must put two and two together. Will Detective Hitchens figure things out before it is too late? Will Tom get to the letter "Z" before he is stopped? Will he be stopped at all? Will Jake and Billie get the call to assist or will Gary aka Tom escape again?
