From politicians, like Nixon and Clinton whose scandalous abuse occurred in the highest office in America, to celebrities, like Rock Hudson and Farley Granger who finally emerged from the closet and revealed their gay life, there are numerous famous people who have won their share of ignominy. Many stars, like Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, and Raymond Burr, have surprising revelations for their stargazing fans.
But who are these troubled and troubling characters? Are they not products of our society? Perhaps they are not really so different than the rest of us without fame and fortune. Had we had the same opportunities, would we not have done the same things? Are they the mirrors of us, or are we mirrors of them? Is it really the face or only the mirror that is broken?
