Something terrible is about to happen to the fairy settlement in the shape of the Knarl - huge, aggressive spiders, whose aim is to enslave all the races. A war is inevitable, but who is going to lead the allied patchwork army? And will ordinary tactics work against the overwhelming numbers of the enemy? A miracle is needed but where do you find one? Stephen is appointed Army Commander but is extremely reluctant to be in charge, but what other choice is there? The fairies, dwarfs and elves know nothing about waging war.
