Bruce Cameron was proud and happy to serve as doctor for the small southern town of Blakeville - proud, as head of Blake Hospital, to carry on the traditions of the doctors before him. He lived with friends in a gracious old mansions; he was loved by red-haired Carol Maitland; and most important of all, he was esteemed by the townspeople. Before Bruce there had always been a Dr. Jim Blake in Blakeville - until the fourth Dr. Jim married into New York Society and made his home there. Neither he nor his glamorous silver-blonde daughter Diana had visited Blakeville for many years, but Bruce kept a picture of Diana in his room. Years passed before Diana visited her father's ancestral home, but finally her essentially shallow life palled and , trying to avoid committing herself to a loveless marriage, she turned restlessly to Blakeville.
