A Ghastly Dream Come True...

Elizabeth felt like a beautiful princess in the romantic chalet. It was a setting out of a dream.

Then suddenly her life became part of the bizarre and chilling terrors locked behind the chalet doors - weird noises in the night, cries of madness creeping down the halls, ghostly figures lurking in the shadows and pursuing her.

Where does a dream begin and where - and when - does it end?

Both because of an unhappy romance and because the death of her mother, also a nurse, Elizabeth Stewart felt alone and disoriented, she was willing to turn her back on the past and go to visit an uncle whom she barely knew and who was a senior doctor in a sanitarium for mental patients in the Laurentian Mountain district of Canada.

From the exterior, the Chalet St. Denis resembled a castle in a fairy tale. But inside, doors locked unexpectedly to shut Elizabeth in, and a pale face which may have been a ghost mysteriously appeared and as suddenly vanished into thin air. Although she was somewhat reassured by the calm mien of her uncle, even his effect on her was more hypnotic than wholesome, and the nurse began to wonder if she had entered into Nirvana or Purgatory.
