Beasts — John Crowley

FIRST EDITION hardcover published by Doubleday in 1976. This is a rather scarce book in nice condition, not to be mistaken for the common book club edition issued the following year. This is Crowley's second novel, describing a world in which genetically engineered animals are given a variety of human characteristics. Painter is a leo, a combination of man and lion; Reynard, a character derived from medieval European fable, is part fox.
