Cybernetics expert Nick Slate has been assigned to lead a small Marine raiding force to a secret Chinese prison camp known only by the code name Omega. Their mission is to rescue a pair of American fighter pilots shot down over the deep jungle.
Nick isn't a warrior, and he knows nothing of battle tactics or strategy. He has no particular expertise in the jungle environment, but he can do something that none of the Marines can manage. He can jack directly into the central nervous system of a cybernetically augmented leopard.
When the interface is active, he can see through the leopard's eyes; feel the jungle floor under the pads of her paws, and take advantage of the animal's vastly superior sense of smell. He can become the beast.
