Fifteen years ago, Rudi Matt's father died trying to climb the Citadel, the last unconquered summit in the Alps. Now, at 16, Rudi wants to place his banner on the top to prove that it can be done. But his mother won't let him go anywhere near the mountain. She insists that he stay safely in town washing dishes in the local hotel.

Still, Rudi is determined to prove to himself and everyone else that it can be done. Finally, he is given the opportunity to accompany the famous climber, Capt. John Winters, on his quest to conquer the impossible peak. Should Rudi go against his mother's wishes to prove his courage and make his dream come true?
