International search for a stolen masterpiece and a treacherous informer -- Webb Carr was a young American lawyer who had helped the Italian Resistance fighters during the War. One of the fighters had actually been a double agent who betrayed Webb to the Nazis. Released from a German prison camp at the end of the War, Webb returned to the United States believing that Julie -- his beautiful Italian fiancee -- was dead and not knowing the identity of the man who had turned him over to the enemy.
Now peacetime business brought Webb back to the Italian Alps to trace the ownership of a valuable art treasure. Webb soon found the painting's original owner. He also found a murder, and some information that would eventually brim him face-to-face with his betrayer.
