We all want something we can't have--love, money, power, secret knowledge, revenge. But suppose someone came along and offered us those things, absolutely free and without having to lift a finger? Everybody's wary of promises that sound too good to be true, but everybody wants to believe them, and much of the time, we do.
Gulihem de Courdeval--evil, Satanic Templar who was resurrected in NEXT, AFTER LUCIFER--knows this very well, and he uses it to prey on victims in the sequel, ADVERSARY. After escaping from France, Courdeval surfaces in San Francisco, a city that's famous for occult interest and seekers. He poses as a spiritual teacher, gathering a group of disciples and miraculously fulfilling their wishes that have seemed so out of reach. He assures them that this is entirely benign, and that they're only tapping into a mysterious power that's rightfully theirs to use.

But he's actually doing it by means of black magic, and little by little, he lures them into escalating evil, harm to innocent victims, and finally, murder. By the time they realize the truth and try to back out, it's too late--they have sold their souls, and they only have two choices: to continue on as servants of Courdeval and his demonic masters, using their power to spread evil in ever-increasing ways--or gruesome, terrifying death.
This work of fiction is rooted in medieval magic, bringing supernatural horror to modern times.
