Pretty Jan Spencer could hardly believe her employer had offered her an all-expenses-paid winter vacation at his luxurious Jamaican home. Even more unbelievable was the fact that she could take her best friend, Peg Reynolds, along for company.
Both girl agreed it was a dream come true, especially when they discovered there was more to the island than scenery -- namely, handsome plantation manager Jim Landers, and rugged good-looking Bill Crane of the Associated Press. But what they didn't discover, until too late, was that their tropical paradise was really a garden of evil. A place where intrigue and mystery flourished and even the most innocent could not be trusted…
Because her employer was ordered to take a rest, Janice Spencer had been offered a winter vacation in Jamaica with all expenses paid. For Horizons, Alexander Stanley's luxurious home, was on the northeastern coast of Jamaica, not far from Port Antonio, and several miles from his jungle banana plantation.
It was a bad situation for a man who had just suffered a heart attack--but Stanley was determined to get to the bottom of Jim Landers' attempts to keep him away from the plantation. Jim, the adopted son of Stanley's sister, had been a victim of wanderlust until he visited the plantation, fell in love with it at sight, and agreed to take over as its manager. Ramon Alvarez, the former manager, had been shot to death under mysterious circumstances and the present overseer, Congata, was a man Stanley instinctively mistrusted. Yet Jim seemed to be playing along with Congata.
Stanley had made his trip to Jamaica a social occasion by inviting along his aunt, Julia Elliot, from Washington, and Julia's deb daughter, Judy; joining their party in Jamaica were Phyllis Courtney and Stanley's cousin, Tom Reid. Phyllis, it seemed to Janice, was angling for the Stanley millions while apparently in love with Tom, who had small hope of being remembered in Alex Stanley's will.
To Janice, Jamaica was all very glamorous and different. She had been allowed to invite a friend, Peggy Reynolds, a fashion model, and in Kingston, she had run into Bill Crane of the Associated Press. Romance, glamour, and beauty. She hadn't reckoned on intrigue...but even Janice could see the everything was not running smoothly at the Stanley plantation...
