As Natalie Norris drives to Port Townsend, she thinks all her dreams will come true if only she can act at the town's summer theater, where her drama teacher has arranged an audition for her. But when Natalie gets a part in the play, she finds the reality to be far less rosy than her dreams. For Jules Van Somer, the handsome director, is a demanding perfectionist who makes her life a hell onstage. Worse yet, offstage Natalie finds herself falling in love with the impossible man -- even though she knows she can never win him for herself, not when Margo Cunningham, the play's glamorous, talented star, has her own dreams of a future with Jules Van Somer.
