To her complete bewilderment, Boston teenager Kathy McCall finds her normally affectionate, good-natured, older brother Jonathan beginning to treat her like pure poison. To make things worse, Jon's hero Rad Cooper, a senior and editor of the school paper indicates, as the year passes, that he considers Kathy quite mature enough for his attention.

It's a winter of “Aprils” in the McCall household: sunshine one minute and showery tears the next.
