1592: Sir Robert Carey is finding life in the North more complicated and dangerous than he expected.

Now somebody has stolen the entire shipment of hand-guns that Queen Elizabeth I sent to Carlisle, in a daring daylight raid. Who did it? Where are the guns now?

Sir Robert sets out for Scotland â€" hoping to find the weapons and also perhaps meet the young Scottish King in Dumfries.

He doesn't know that his enemy, Sir Henry Widdrington, is also on his way to James VI's Court.
