Holly tried to remember how these people had once looked at her. Aunt Judy, jolly and loving and kindly. Marcus, as dashing and handsome as a young god. Kate, funny and flighty and beautiful. Isobel, so gentle and generous, devoted to noble causes and good works. And of course, towering above them all, Ben -- strong, brilliant, burning with fierce genius and creative fire.

Now it was all like a Halloween masquerade in reverse. All the masks were coming off, to reveal the naked faces of evil.

Only one thing still remained masked, and Holly waited with mounting terror for the moment when this, too, would be revealed -- the strange and terrible fate that was being planned for her…
