A Son of Perdition — Michael Orona

The Black Nether novel series is the story of Seth: a man tormented by anguish, and an empty shell of a person. He had lived a lie for too long, forgetting who he was, and trying to live up to an image he could not maintain. As his life became an endless nightmare of loneliness, Seth forces open a portal, or rift, during a run in which he had lost all hope of ever being whole again. Though Seth discovers his own strength and power in the strange universe by manipulating the Black Nether, his troubles are not limited to a Prophet and religion trying to kill him: a shadow stalks him, awakened during his brief travel through the black nether, waiting for their inevitable meeting in which Seth must die.
