William Richter -- as rough and gritty as the landscape he inhabits -- tries to make a go of cattle ranching in Texas with three of his Civil War buddies. Richter and his friends work hard to succeed, but still find they have to turn to wealthy Henry Udall for help. That's where the trouble begins. Udall wants to muscle in on the rich land and Richter's claim, and will stop at nothing to achieve this end. Richter had heard all about Udall's brutal tricks, and thought he could handle anything -- until he met Henry Udall's daughter -- and realized that he had formed a partnership with death!
