There is an old Indian belief that once someone rescues another person, he is destined to look out for that person from that time one. Such a bond is formed when Dr. Tucker Hadley saves Megan Manford from a mugger in the parking lot of St. Mark's Hospital.
A short time later, their mutual friend Dr. Evan Kane is diagnosed with leukemia, and Megan and Tucker must work together to locate a suitable bone marrow donor for Evan. To this end they need to find out what happened many years ago when a tornado hit a small town in Kansas and the critical victims were brought into St. Mark's. For while tragedy left death and sadness in its wake, it left a mystery as well.
As Megan and Tucker attempt to save Evan's life, they also discover that the old Indian belief may be true -- Megan begins to hope that Evan will indeed turn out to be a forever kind of guy.
