A Different Diamond — Jody Studdard

Brooke Conrad is on top of the world. She is the star shortstop for her high school's softball team, and it is one of the best teams in the state. But everything changes overnight when the shortstop for the school's baseball team gets kicked out of school, and the baseball coach asks Brooke to take his place for the season. Brooke has never heard of anything so ridiculous - a girl playing on a baseball team, with boys? Can it even be done? Her dad scoffs at the idea and will hear nothing of it. Her softball teammates, however, encourage her to give it a try, and they point out that if she does, she'll be teammates with eleven of the cutest boys at school. Brooke agrees to do it, but instantly doubts whether she made the right decision. The boys don't want her on the team, and she questions whether she's good enough to play baseball at all. But she doesn't give up, and she decides she needs to prove something. She needs to prove she is good enough to play baseball - to her dad, to the boys, and most importantly, to herself.
