Mary Abbot is enjoying her visit to Scotland. She's in search of somewhere that appeals to her artistic streak, somewhere quiet, to sit and sketch. The island of Inchmahome, with its ruined Priory, is perfect. It's a place that fascinates her, pulling her back again and again. As the number of drawings in her sketchbook grows, so does Mary's friendship with the Inchmahome ferry's pilot, Catriona Buchanan. It's just a shame about Catriona's family. Her brother, Al, is a man without respect for personal boundaries and an odd perception of acceptable social behaviour. Her parents think that an ambush is a good way to meet someone new. Visions, flying glass and telepathic voices are soon turning Mary's peaceful holiday into something far more disturbing. Not all meetings are as random as they seem. The Lifelights are back... but so are their enemies.
