During the summer of Kyle Brubaker's fourteenth year he makes a discovery. A set of hieroglyphic images painted on a wall deep inside a cave. He soon dubs them as 'hairy glifics'. What he learns from the images changes his life forever. When utilized a certain way the hairy glifics allow him to travel through time. No period of history, nor events that might transpire in the future, are beyond his ability to visit.
Kyle is impulsive and willing to embark on trips that could be life-threatening. His best friend, 14-year-old Hilly Northrup, is reluctant to willingly accept the risks and challenges that Kyle is eager to try.
Kyle launches himself into Dodge City, Kansas in 1875 and is quickly befriended by 15-year-old Clint Wainright. The boy is completely alone and in need of a companion and partner. Life for two in that era can be safer than for one alone. The day Kyle spends in that city from America's past teaches him lessons about life and the strength of the people who forged their way across the country. Lessons he he will never forget.
As the end of the day approaches Kyle knows his time is shortâ€"he has to leave Dodge City and head home. But what of Clint? The boy has no idea where Kyle is from nor how he really arrived in Dodge. Kyle is torn and chooses the only method he can devise on the spur of the moment to make his departure. It's one he knows that, after he has disappeared and deserted his new friend, will burden him with consequences that will be hard to live with.
It doesn't take long before Kyle decides he has to try and repair the mistakes he made while on his first extended trip back through time. He returns to Dodge and, before Clint even know he has gone, attempts to explain the impossible.
What happens next is an adventure both boys, and Hilly, will hold in their hearts and memories for the rest of their lives.

Author's Note
1875 combines two previously published novels. Book 1, Kyle Brubaker and the hairy glifics â€" Dodge City and Book 2, Kyle Brubaker and the hairy glifics - The Homecoming which is the sequel. As The Homecoming is a continuation of Dodge City it made sense to stitch them together and create a full, more complete story.
