Holly blamed Liz's absence on Seacliff Manor. Before Seacliff, they had both pitched in to manage the cottages that their parents had left them.

Seacliff -- the very name sent a chill through Holly. They had inherited Seacliff from a mysterious uncle whom they had never met. And Liz, after visiting the old manor house located on a small island off the coast, had returned home only briefly. She had been lured back by something she couldn't explain.

Holly was unable to reach Liz by telephone and was considering writing to her when she received a hand-delivered envelope containing a picture of a grotesque skeleton and a warning to save her sister before it was too late!

Without thinking, without planning, Holly sped through a dark, rain-swept night to reach her sister.
