Big Max Huggins, who ran the slap-up outlaw town of Hell's Creek in the north Montana Rockies, had an eye on expanding his cutthroat operation to nearby Barlow -- unmindful of the fact that Smoke Jensen was visitin' kin there with his wife Sally. When the band of murderous owlhoots rode into town the air was filled with thunder and the whine of angry lead, but it didn't take long for Smoke to rout the scummy lot with guns and fists and send them packin' back to the stickwood holein-the-wall they called home. In an act of desperation, Huggins kidnapped Smoke's wife and set the ransom -- Sally's life for the town of Barlow.

Raised by an old mountain man named Preacher, Smoke Jensen was said to be the fastest gun alive. He'd put aside his gunslingin' days. but that didn't stop low-life no-accounts like Max Huggins who took a notion to make a name for themselves. Now Smoke Jensen, the last mountain man, was ridin' up a Rocky Mountain valley with fire In his eyes, reins in his teeth and both hands filled with .44s. If Big Maxwas lookin' to make a name for himself, the only name he was goin' to git would be carved on his gravestone!
