Description
William John Locke (1863-1930) was a novelist, short story writer, and playwright born in Demerara, in what is now Guyana. In 1894 he published his first novel, At the Gate of Samaria, but only achieved real success with The Morals of Marcus Ordeyne (1905) and The Beloved Vagabond (1906). His many works have been made into twenty-four motion pictures and four Broadway plays.
