Every year Barbara Ware looked forward to the vacation she spent with her two sister and her parents. But this summer she had a strange sense of foreboding as she drove to the family farm in Maine. She was sure something unpleasant awaited her there.


Barbara tried to brush away her vague fears, though, as she neared home. And when she encountered Charles Tibbett, the local lawyer who had once meant everything to her, and Dr. Jack Mason, her father's new young vet, Barbara's vacation seemed off to a delightful start.
