Return to Barton — W.E.D. Ross

Living in the small town of Barton, Maine, Sue Lawson had had little time for romance while helping her brother Chet build a small general-contracting business their father had left them into busy, successful Central Construction. Now, at twenty-five, Sue was a successful businesswoman, but the petite brunette began to wish she had more of a life outside the business.

Then Lindsay Parker, slender, handsome, haunted by his past, applied for work at Central Construction. Although obviously more used to office work, he eagerly accepted the only job available -- digging ditches on a pipeline being constructed in Barton. Sue's suspicion that the young man was hiding something was quickly confirmed, however, when she discovered that he had just been paroled from prison.

But as Lindsay came to share Sue's interest in tennis and CB radios, she began to understand and trust the person behind the ex-convict façade. And she became determined to help him rebuild his life.

As she found herself more and more drawn to the attractive man, she realized she had to face reality. True, Lindsay had come back to his hometown, but could he ever really return to Barton -- to the acceptance and respect he had one had in the town? And if he did return to his past life, would he also return to Inez Wilson, the beautiful socialite to whom he had been engaged? Over the weeks, Sue came to understand that she must accept that her struggle to help him gain his self-respect might result in her losing him forever.
