Jack the Black Heart steals only from the vilest of reprobates to fund his one true mission: discover who murdered his father. Not long ago, he had no worries as Lord Jackson Townsend, an earl's second son who served King and Country in the Royal Navy. When he unexpectedly became heir to Ravenwood, his father ordered him to leave the sea and get married. The arguments got heated. And everything changed when he found his father dead and was accused of doing the awful deed. Now, Jack lives on the run, desperately seeking clues to clear his name and allow his return home.

Lady Victoria Claiborne, the Duke of Huntington's sister, yearns for one tiny adventure before going back to her boring life of parties and recitals. She wishes for a distraction from her autocratic grandmother's husband-hunt and is terrified of a sudden, unwanted betrothal. After overhearing her dear friend, Megan, the Duchess of Claremont, is to have a message delivered to Black Heart, Torie realizes her opportunity for some excitement. For the first time in her life, she does the unexpected. She disguises herself as a messenger boy and sets off for the quay, Megan's note in hand. The delivery doesn't go as planned, though, and Torie finds herself aboard a pirate ship, heading out to open sea.

Jack must figure out what to do now that the entire country is alerted to his presence. Matters are further complicated when he realizes Torie is no messenger boy. For her protection from his rough crew, he takes her to a friend's home in Scotland and loses his heart in the process. He now has an even greater reason to solve his father's murder and put the past behind him. Yet, when new evidence is uncovered, an even stronger case for Jack's guilt arises. As all hope for clearing his name evaporates, he has no choice but to let Torie go. A life on the run is no life at all. The only chance left for Jack and Torie is to find the real killer before it's too late.

This book has all the elements of a love story: plots, subplots, adventure, intrigue, mystery, secrets, scandals, twists and turns, violence, murder, suspense, passionate love, sex, beautiful romance […]. It's so intense at every turn, it's so hard to put down. It's also interesting that all the previous characters in her secret and scandal book series are all twined in the tale. Ms. Green is consistently very good in her story telling that I look forward to read her next book. â€"Marlene R.
