Genevieve was awakened in the night by a recorder's eerie tune. Before falling back to sleep she recognized the old refrain, Oh, Dem Golden Slippers. The next night Genevieve was witness to a murder -- a girl, wearing golden shoes, was shot to death.

The music, Genevieve wondered, did it have any connection with the slaying? The answer came a few nights later. This time the dreaded instrument was playing, Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son. The following day, before she could warn him, Mr. Piper's son was found dead.
