Ten months after the Civil War starts, the 66th Alabama Infantry Regiment is formed. Among it's soldiers is a hillbilly, a doctor, a merchant, a teacher, a butcher, a saddle maker and a West Point graduate who finished last in his class. Through their service they evolve as people, but their hopes and dreams spring eternal despite the horrors of war.
