When Willis joined her brother and sister-in-law in Canada, she found Pemmican Creek, a strange place, wild and beautiful, with hills which seemed to hold some secret magnet that drew her brother Keith and Lee Hardy, his partner, to them in search of precious minerals that would make their fortune and enable Keith to take Yvette to live in Paris.

The woods, too, had a magical hold on the timbermen, led by Marty Unwin. But between the timbermen and the prospector's, there existed only and unrelenting bitterness. Willis was attracted to Lee, but it was only when she found true happiness with the man she loved that real peace came to Pemmican Creek.
