Description
Shirley Marlow was ashamed of home, of her family, of the mean street she lived in, even of Nick Brennan, her childhood sweetheart. When an unexpected chance came of a post in a rich lady's house, she therefore accepted it and did her best to keep the two worlds apart.
She fabricated a genteel family up north in a quaint old cottage, and to Bruce Foster, the outside man at the big farm, she gave the impression that she was her employer's ward.
When a serious robbery took place, suspicion fell on Bruce, and it was only with Nick's help that the stolen goods were recovered. Shirley's faith in Bruce led her deeper into the web of deception, but at the end of the road she found where the truth lay, and with it, love.
