In the 32 pieces of fiction included here, Asian women and a few non-Asians strongly associated with the Asian American experience tell stories of lives in a new world. Some characters are newly arrived, others already second- and third-generation, but all must deal with being different. Altogether 29 authors, both established (Maxine Hong Kingston, Bharati Mukherjee, Amy Tan) and new, are represented. A fine companion to The Forbidden Stitch ( LJ 5/1/89) and Making Waves ( LJ 6/15/89), also anthologies of Asian American women writers, Home To Stay has a few of the same authors yet no repeated stories, thus giving a wide range of writing.
