Book Three:Early in the twenty-sixth century there are just three hundred million people remaining on Earth who can still call it their home. They are all of what remains of a population that was once numbered in the billions. Much of this vestigial population is rural and they are only permitted to live in colonies of no more than two hundred. The remainder live in one of seven city states that are permitted by the governing Republic.There is however, a new city state emerging that is desperately trying to establish itself and its very existence is threatened by the arrival of some five hundred thousand migrants who have marched from all over the continent to settle on Vancouver Island. They only want to live in peace. This is the story of their struggle and told by a selfless common hero: Curran.Much of “The Waterman’s” story precedes the story line found in the previously published novel: “Brothers By Numbers” and the two stories do intersect briefly thus the author recommends that the novel “Brothers By Numbers” should be read first, however Curran’s tale can confidently stand alone on its own.
