In the summer of 1870, two steamboats, the Natchez and the Robert E. Lee, raced up the Mississippi from New Orleans, Louisiana, to Saint Louis, Missouri. This story follows the race through the eyes of Benjamin Brown, a fictional passenger aboard the Natchez.
