Anne was surprised by Rob MacNeil's initial reaction to her. Most people instantly took to her good nature and model-like beauty.

Weary of big-city life, disappointed in love, she'd returned to her family's rural Manitoba home -- only to find that Rob had bought up most of the family land. If there was any dislike going around, he should be the recipient, not her, for Anne had always hoped to live on that land herself. Now this arrogant interloper had quashed her dream.
