Description
Killigrew Clay has become one of the biggest china clayworks in Cornwall. But the fortunes of china clay are never stable, & threats to its future come from a ruthless woman clay boss, Harriet Pendragon, who has her sights set, not only on Killigrew Clay, but on one of its owners, the handsome American, Randall Wainright.
But she reckons without Morwen Tremayne Killigrew Wainright, who has alwsys fought for what was hers. As the matriarch of a large brood of four children now, Morwen copes with the threat of a family scandal as well as realising that she & Ran are no longer the passionate lovers of old.
A bereavement produces turmoil & bitterness between brothers, & threatens to split the family in two, while the unwitting interference of Harriet Pendragon helps to underline the strength of the family unit.
The tide turns with a new opportunity for the clayworks, & a twist of fate frees them from the threat of a take-over. But none of this is as important to Morwen as the fear of losing all her daughters. For one of them, at least, she wonders if there will ever be a happy-ending, or if the shadows that have dogged her since she herself was a young maiden will finally close in on her.
