A humorous novel set in the picturesque town of Sonoma in Northern California. A series of personal tragedies has turned the protagonist into an insecure, resentful recluse. A talented painter, his depression has reduced him to the painting of hackneyed pictures for tourists. In despair, and while consuming large quantities of Bourbon, he hatches a plot to get back at a world that has treated him so unfairly. Will the Plan work or will it more completely destroy his life? A fateful encounter with a young woman further complicates his life. Will she make his life better or worse? While touching on some serious issues, the writing is done in a comical, breezy style similar to the author's other works.
