The Bayou House was full of dark shadows and Jennifer Mallory, its defiant owner, was determined to keep it that way. There, she met the handsome Dr. Marvin Corbett and found herself strangely attracted to him. Lindsay's life is then complicated by the mysterious Alden Mayhew, who comes to board at the Bayou House, insisting he is a writer. His attentions to Lindsay trouble her, for despite the dark shadows surrounding him. Lindsay fells herself drawn to him. Can Lindsay sort out the turmoil making her heart tremble and find love after all? "You're a woman and he's a man ... and you're good looking," Aunt Jennifer told Nurse Lindsay as she ordered her niece to spy-out Alden Mayhew's secret. Was he a writer as he claimed or was he a fugitive from the law as the bayou people suspected? And even if Lindsay agreed to do her aunt's dirty work, how could she pretend affection for Alden now that she was falling in love with Doctor Corbett?
