Meredith Blake, M.D. — Peggy Gaddis

Young Dr. Meredith Blake takes over her grandfather's practice in the small Georgian town of River Gap She is in love with her former patient, Hugh Prather, and wants to marry him, but not while she has to be a doctor 24-hours a day. When someone else takes over, then she will be free to marry and be a full-time wife. But WWII has taken away many of the doctors and the chances of her being free to marry don't look good. Meanwhile she helps her patients as best as she can.
