When Misty Deane was appointed front-desk manager of the plush America Hotel in the newest resort complex on the Caribbean island of San Damien, her elation was tempered by the knowledge that her selection did not have the general manager's endorsement. Dark-featured Mike Warner made no secret of the fact that he thought Misty too inexperienced for the job, and Misty had all she could do to contain her usually hot temper in the face of his masculine arrogance, vowing that she would prove unfounded his low estimation of her competence.

Mike's disapproval was not shared by blond Kevin Dailey, playboy son of the resort's owner, millionaire magnate Jason Dailey. From the moment he saw Misty in the hotel lobby the lighthearted Kevin began to pursue the green-eyed beauty with an earnestness never displayed in his shallower conquests. In fact, Kevin's constant attention caused Misty some embarrassment. He always seemed to be underfoot at times when Misty was to be concentrating on her work, and Mike Warner never failed to notice.

Although Misty successfully surmounted one crisis after another in the course of her new job, she seemed set on an obstacle course in her attempts to win Mike's approval. To his eyes all the evidence showed that Misty was an opportunistic young woman bent on using her suitors to get ahead in her profession.
