Description
The novel tells of the joys and troubles of two children and their parents when they decide to protect and keep secret two very rare birds nesting near their village. The hazardous venture draws the family closer together, and by involving a strange old man who lives alone on the mountain it succeeds in making him less of an outcast. Although much of the story is based on the concern of ordinary people for the preservation of wild life, it also gives a convincingly true picture of springtime activities in a very Welsh village on a hillside in Snowdonia. Strangers on the Mountain was awarded the prize in an unusual competition arranged by the Cardiganshire Education Committee for a novel in English for children.
