The Shadow Club — Neal Shusterman

Jared and Cheryl are tired of being second best. Jared is the second-best runner in the school; another boy beats him every time. Cheryl is the second-best singer and dancer in her family. Her cousin is always number one. They're fed up with living in someone else's shadow. But what can they do about it?

Their revenge takes the form of the Shadow Club, and they invite other students who are second best to join them. None of the club members has ever done anything bad, so no one suspects them when practical jokes are played on their enemies -- the kids who hold first place. But when a second, more destructive round of pranks are played -- pranks not planned by the club -- the members are sure they are being framed.

They know there is only one person who would want to expose the Shadow Club. That's when the real horror begins.
