Operation Shield Maidens — Mike Whicker

During the earliest days of the Cold War, the Soviets kidnap an important inventor who has been working on new technology for the USA. The Americans know they must free the inventor, who happens to also be a famous Hollywood movie star. A cat and mouse game between the new CIA and the Russian secret police begins in Vienna, moves to East Berlin, and eventually comes to a shocking climax on the Polish border.
