Dark Ascendance — Michael Wright

After six years of war in Iraq, Tom Arkcana returns home just as broken as when he left. Suffering from horrible nightmares and uncanny visions since the discovery of an ancient city, Tom hopes a hiking trip through the mountains of the Pacific Northwest with his two best friends will help clear his mind. But with the discovery of an archeological site related to the one found in Iraq, and the subsequent military interest, Tom and his friends suddenly find themselves on the losing side of a gun fight.
