Description
Lucy was a theatre nurse, a twin girl who had taken up nursing whilst her twin sister had taken up flirting as a profession. Lucy worked for Hugh Davos, the great surgeon at the London Hospital, and although she may not have known it at first, she fell deeply in love with him.
He was a married man, with a curtain drawn over his marriage. None knew the truth of it, but wanted to discover. Gradually the love affair grew, and it was a dangerous one, as the girl knew.
It had begun by the sea and that was where it ended. Lucy was the nurse whose picture was the picture of the year in the Royal Academy, a nurse coming off duty with tired eyes, and a soiled apron, but happy that she had done her job.
Lucy worked through all manner of difficulties, faithfully dedicated.
