Sir Robert Boyd had promised his daughter Lindsay to his squire, Ninian Stewart, in marriage, but when the Boyds and the Stewarts fell from favour with King James III of Scotland, the Glenorchan estates were given to Sir James Fielding, husband of Lindsay's sister, Elspeth.
