Emily Trigger and the Prodigal Suns are following Heka's calling card. The trail of injured and dead bodies is a dark trail leading them to the ancient god of magic. Not before a whole lot of searching for Emily and her new unit. While the Prodigal Suns wait for new intel on Heka's whereabouts, Emily finds herself faced with a few new threats of her own, and her newly altered magic suddenly doesn't seem so accidental anymore. There's a rhyme and a reason to her electrifying new abilities—somewhere—and Emily needs to figure out what that is if she wants to stop having so many close calls. Like almost being killed by magical creatures that shouldn't exist. And somewhere out there, on the other side of the world, more powerful players who thought they were out of the picture forever are also noticing changes in their own magic and its strength.
