Pinewood Acres is a playground for the wealthy and an inspiration to those less fortunate. Among the latter, Angie Carlson has accompanied her friend, a relative of Pinewood's owner, for a much-needed holiday. On her easel Angie skillfully depicts the vivid beauty of the bucolic resort, but in her thoughts the burned-out buildings and lives surrounding her innercity mission threaten to overwhelm her.

When Angie befriends the reclusive owner, Rena Mara, a once proud businesswoman who is now a debilitated alcoholic, she senses a need as profound as those she fled. When Rena's son Richard Ogden returns to Pinewood to save the resort from financial ruin--and his mother from herself--his motivies are not above suspicion.
